The integration between the services goes beyond syncing details. If you look at a task in Microsoft To-Do and need to see more details such as comments and file attachments you can select 'Open in Planner' to jump into Microsoft Planner. Tasks created in Microsoft Planner can also show up in other sections of Microsoft To-Do if you'd like. For example, if a task has a due date, it will show up in the 'Planned' list.
